Epsilon Chapter was chartered on May 3, 1924 on the campus of Boston University, as the first and only single-letter chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority in the Greater Boston area. Since 1924, Epsilon has always been grounded in strong values and beliefs, yet unafraid to challenge ourselves and the world around us.
We have always been well-positioned to promote the principles, policies, and programs of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated on a continuum: Service to All Mankind. Since Epsilon was chartered in 1924, we have stayed true to the core values and beliefs of our charter members.
It’s this foundation that will keep us true as we continue to grow and move forward – creating new and better opportunities for future generations of critical thinkers, ethical decision makers and community leaders.
Our mission is to cultivate and encourage high scholastic and ethical standards, to promote unity and friendship among college women, to study and help alleviate problems concerning girls and women in order to improve their social stature, to maintain a progressive interest in college life, and to be of “Service to All Mankind.” Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated® was founded on this mission of five basic tenets that have remained unchanged since the sorority’s inception in 1908.
Today, that mission is strengthened by a diverse students and alumni from over 11 undergraduate collegiate institutions throughout the Greater Boston Area, including but not limited to: Babson College, Bentley College, Boston College, Boston University, Brandeis University, Emerson College, Emmanuel College, Pine Manor College, Simmons College, Suffolk University and Tufts University.
More than 600+ alumni have left the campuses on our charter and surrounding Boston collegiate institutions to become influential scientists, teachers, politicians, journalists and more—extending our values into countless industries and communities. This is why our Centennial is about celebrating each other’s accomplishments as much as our own. Even more importantly, now is our chance to refocus as we continue our mission for the next 100 years.
